alificentI SERIOUSLY LOVE DON'T STARVE YOU GUYS, here, have some screenshots.
One winter, I was murdered by penguins. I still have no idea what I did to piss them off. In a subsequent game, penguins took over my base camp. The little icy area designates the penguin mating grounds. I was terrified to go near them, but they were right there on top of my fire pit, so I made an alternate base camp down by my touchstone, and had to stay there all winter being sad and cold and wearing flowers on my head to keep from losing my mind. I was really upset because this was the first time I have managed to get a really awesome base.
Then one day, I was up by the base getting some berries and I was attacked by hounds. Every 7-10 days, the master of the island sics his hounds on you. This is highly unpleasant. One of the ways I've died is that the hounds attacked in the night, and I tried to run away but my torch ran out and left me in complete darkness, at which point I was killed by the night monster (if you are in the dark for any significant length of time, I think like five seconds, you are going to die). So it was almost night and I couldn't make it back to my base camp, so I had to suck it up and risk it, and so I ran in circles around the penguins. The hounds attacked the penguins and the penguins killed them, and then they fell asleep in a penguin pile and let my light my fire and sleep in my tent. I still don't know if they were all NOW WE ARE FRIENDS or if I pissed them off somehow the winter I killed them and they are usually nice.
I love Wilson's observation on beefalo wool. Also look at the hilarious sad faces on the beefalo I shaved. SADDEST OF BEEFALO.
One night I was out exploring and there were a ton of fireflies. It was really pretty.
So in general, Willow is pretty easy to keep sane because fire makes her sane, so if you stand in the fire at night you are generally not insane. However, sometimes you do something during the day that makes you very insane (I had found a bunch of evil flowers and stood around them too long figuring out what they were surrounding), and then you cannot stand in the fire because these terrifying shadow hands come up and try to steal it. As if this is not bad enough, creepy music box music is playing while this is going on, and there are eyes out in the darkness, and you can hear creepy whispering in your head.
If you go even more insane, your nightmares legitimately come to life and kill you. This has happened to me; it is kind of my favorite death. What happened was, I chopped down too many trees at once and one of them turned into an ent and started chasing me. It was night, so I had to stay by my fire, and this ent chased me around the fire all night. Wilson is a scientist with delicate scientific sensibilities, so this drove him completely out of his mind, and the next morning my nightmares came to life and they ate me. I think ALSO hounds were attacking.
IT WAS AWESOME.

Date: 2014-06-13 11:03 pm (UTC)FORTUNATELY, killing makes Wigfrid sane, so I got saner after I killed the Deerclops, which I think only worked because maybe he was bugged and not hurting me bad enough or something. Then I got some more saner inventing things with my science machine. Then I got my health back eating things with honey in them. Then like five days later the goose moose thing killed me, and I had no touchstone so I was dead.

That game up there the only reason I survived so many days was there were two touchstones on the same map. This was awesome for me but probably not for Wilson who was like OH GOD HOW MANY TIMES CAN HOUNDS KILL ALI?
